That’s still closer to the trooper than I would ever drive. And just how oblivious do you have to be not to see a trooper coming up behind you? When I drive, no matter which lane I’m in, I’m constantly scanning my six to see what’s coming up.

Not all heroes wear capes... some wear Nebraska state trooper uniforms.

That reminds me of driving on 167 last night, LLCs everywhere, I was tempted to PIT a couple of them. Didn’t see a single trooper on the way down or back.

What’s with the pulling over to the left I keep seeing?
Even if you are getting pulled over, when you get released back into traffic, you are going to be merging into the fastest of the overtaking lanes.

Exactly. And a lot of places in the US only pave the right-hand shoulder, specifically because that’s where you need to pull over. So not only would you have to merge with faster traffic, you’ll have less traction to get up to speed as well . Besides, parking in the grass increases your chances of starting a fire .

I bet if he’d just started moving over to the right shoulder, the cop would have passed right by. But the cop is like “you wanna park in the median? Ok time for the stupid tax”

I have no clue. I actually said something about that in the video. People keep pulling into the median

I think we’ve just stumbled across a new purpose for land mines.
Rather than lay waste to massive areas of land around the world killing and maiming innocent people, they can remove left lane ho ggers who don’t know the highway code.

I suspect you might be right!
pulling left confirms you are in the wrong, pull right to make way and MAYBE the cop was just trying to get you to move becuase they need to get going to an emergency

Every day that I take the highway for my commute in the morning, there are always jackasses that just sit in the left lane oscillating between 70 and 85 in the left most lane. It seems that anytime someone is next to them, its slow down to about 70 and then when it clears up, they ratchet it up to about 85. These people are going to be the cause of me getting pulled over doing 95+ some day just because I get angry and pass them eventually no matter the speed. Usually there is plenty of opportunity to pass since traffic is pretty light but it is annoying that 90% of my passing is done on the right. In LA on the freeways, it is technically legal to do that thankfully but its also still a law for slower traffic to keep right. Its the wild wild west out here on the freeways though so just about no laws are enforced generally.

On the stretch of highway where this was filmed (I-80 from Omaha to Lincoln), were it not for the fact that I was following this trooper, I would ordinarily
be sitting in the rightmost
lane going about 8 over and passing everyone.

I would always pull over to the right because it’s the safe thing to do and also to give the trooper the chance to just blow right by me, which half the time he’ll prefer to do anyway.
Unless I know I’ve been speeding, he’s been pursuing me at high speed, and there is tall grass off the left shoulder, in which case I am definitely pulling off to the left. ;)
I have grown to be leery of the “pace the trooper” practice. Sometimes, they set themselves up above t he speed limit and “pace” you from in front so they can ticket you. A trooper in upstate NY got me that way.

I’d love to be a fly on the windshield of the cop’s car every time some idiot driver does this, just to hear the reactions.
